Hello, and thanks for the advice. I did not float the fish, and shock may have been the problem.
I added some bio stuff that came with my filter and the algae situation is much better.
So I will try again.
All of my water tests are right on. The pH has even improved. I dod not understand salting. This is new to me.
Thanks for the advice.
I do live near Tyler and plan to come over and pick up another waterlily, and possible get one or two Koi, however, I want the goldfish to live before I put koi in the pond.
Thanks again. Any advice will be appreciated.

Sorry to hear about your fish - and you seem to have done everything right - full sun would not be a problem, in fact it would help your plants, the algae is normal for this time of year, the ph change would harm the fish if it was rapid or a drastic change for them- since these were new fish introduced I'm thinking more along the lines of some type of shock, whether it be the drastic change in ph or maybe temperature.?? Did you float the fish in the bag for twenty minutes or so, open the bag and ad half pond water and then float for another 20 before adding them to the pond. The water tests you should be running faithfully are ph, nitrites and ammonia. I also recommend that you salt your tank to .2 to prevent disease and shock to new fish - it helps with oxygen and slime coat and at that level is safe for plants.. more of a preventitive measure - if you do notice disease or injury you bump that up to .3, but you might have to remove some of your plants for awhile.. the black algae concerns me a little- that might mean your nitrites were high - did you check that recently? Feel free to contact me anytime and we'll figure it out together.. If you are close to Tyler, I'd be happy to donate a few goldfish - I have a huge overstock and it would be a cheap way making sure things were right before investing in more expensive fish.. hope this has helped.. hello group,
this is my firs adventure at landscape bliss. I do have a question.
I have just recently built and stocked my pond wih aquatic plants. I have tested the water chemistry ad it seems good, the ph was a bit low, but I hve slowly adjusted it. My pond is in the sun for the most part,
So, saturday I put four gold fish in my pond, and they seemed to do fine. sunday they were gone, (dead).
I am clueless other than i suspect oxygenation. As an observation, one of my water lilies had green and balck algae growing around the base,
Advice appreciated.
TIA
