With Mother's Day just days away, this week's Tuesday Blooms is dedicated to Mom's everywhere! When we think of Mom's we generally think of "love" -- and no better flower bloom to visually portray love than a rose!
This rose beauty seems to soak in the sun's warm rays and reflect them back out.

In less than a week, the garden has really taken off. The following items planted from seed on Sunday, April 20, have already broken ground: pumpkins, cucumbers, radishes, and green beans!
When planting from seed, it's important to transplant the baby seedlings in order to grow a healthy size veggie; failure to do so will result in stunted growth! The photos snapped below were taken before we got our hands dirty with the transplanting!
Cucumbers!

As I walked around enjoying the beauty of our blooming landscape today, I noticed a recurring, unintentional theme of pink. I decided to photograph a few to highlight the beauty and variety of pink at our place. It was fun, so I think I will dedicate more days to "the color" in my landscape!

Earth Day began April 22, 1970 and is now a global celebration to remind us to take care of our precious planet.
I absolutely love being outdoors exploring nature's beauty -- from working in our yard, to the rainforest in Puerto Rico, the transluecent blue-green waters of the Caribbean, the desert mountains of Nevada, the Crystal Reservoir in Colorado, the water canals in Italy, and neatly landscaped German villages, lying back on a star-filled night far from the city watching the dazzling show…

For our veggie garden, we chose to use a side yard that receives little traffic and 8-10 hours of sunlight.

We worked hard this past weekend creating a raised bed veggie garden
from a part of our yard that was formerly a basically unused grassed side yard.
I'll share more about that project in a future blog.
But wow!
Being outdoors after such a stormy week was just awesome! And it was
exciting to see how Spring is awakening all around our home. Here are a few photos
of what we have going on at our place!…

I met Alva on another social network and she told me about this place so I thought I would check it out.
My 4 year old daughter, Mikayla, and I are beginning gardeners who live in Northwest Florida. Last fall we planted radishes and carrots with some success. I am anxious to get out there and plant some flowers and or veggies. Mikayla loves to dig, so that part shouldn't be a problem.
I welcome any suggestions from you expert gardeners out there!

After researching and charting and trying to figure out what seeds need which growth conditions, I decided to start experimenting. Like stated before, I bought some organic seed starting mix.

Then on 3/25 I planted 2 bulbs of garlic in pots and a few spinach seeds. The spinach…

It's COLD again! I can't do anything outside. Not sure why not, since it's nearly as cold inside as out.... We screwed up when we moved. Suffice it to say our gas was shut off 2 days ago. No gas means no heat. No hot water. No stove/oven. Poo! We've straightened it out now. BUT we didn't get the bill paid til 2pm today, and according to Aquila, our fabulous (insert sarcasm here) natural gas providers, they won't be able to drive here and get our gas turned back on until Monday at the earliest. A…

I look forward to learning more about gardening and I enjoy meeting people, so this website looks like a great place to be! I hope you'll share your tips with me. I think I may start with a few containers and see how that goes.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what kind of plants or flowers will be good, or where to start?

Well, it snowed yet again. Contrary to popular belief, Colorado isn't the land of snow and skiing. In the mountains, sure. But we're here between the mountains and the plains - so we don't normally get a bunch of snow. Yet yesterday we got what looks like another 3 inches. It's already melting, which is the norm when we do get snow. So - it's a curse having to drive in it and a blessing because we definitely need the moisture. But now I can't do anything in the "yard" because it's getting a bit…

We moved into our new place 2 months ago. The yard is small and currently, we have nothing but a touch of brown grass, lotsa dirt, and a small tree. It's warming up now, spring will be here before we know it and it's time now to start planning! I want to make our yard and garden into something gorgeous. A place to relax, a place to enjoy, a place to be happy. So today, I'm drawing out blueprints of a sort, planning what will go where.
Our last yard, when we moved in, was just dirt. We were expe…
